PROJECTS Wolf Blass Winery

Wolf Blass Winery - Sturdie Electrical Team

For more than 20 years, the Sturdie electrical team have enjoyed a close association with the iconic Wolf Blass winery – either directly, or through our long association with Sage Automation. From tank farms, crushers and fermentation tanks to centrifuges, pumps and electrical infrastructure, the team has been relied upon to deliver for one of the greatest wine names in Australia.

The projects

Over the years, our projects and tasks have been wide and varied, covering an array of needs and projects.

  • Fermenter tank transfer. Managing the complete electrical disassembly and removal of a bank of 56 ten-tonne fermenter tanks from Penfolds Winery, and their re-installation in Wolf Blass’s new ‘Icon’ building.
  • Fermenter tank installation in 2000. The full electrical works for installation of an early bank of 68 fermenter tanks in 2000.
  • New fermenter bank. Recent installation of a bank of 40 static fermenter tanks.
  • Cask Halls #20 and #21. Installing 1200Amp supply and entire electrical system into two new cask halls on site including lighting, switchboards, cabling, and power outlets to meet a range of electrical requirements and power demands. This also required running three 630mm aluminium cables per phase through the tank ‘farms’ into the cask halls.
  • New main switchboard. Supplying and connecting a new main switchboard to the winery, as well as liaising with SA Power Networks on a new transformer, including a power factor corrector unit.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to work with this iconic, internationally recognised winery and cellar door over many years and enabling all facets of the business and operations to function at their best. I’d like to think that our sustained involvement, especially in the early years, has helped keep electrical installation standards high at the winery, in line with the exceptional quality that Wolf Blass wines are famous for.”
